This independent Commission is investigating issues relating to the pay and reward of local government services staff. A call for evidence has been made.

Commission Schedule and Activities

Stage 1. December 2002 - January 2003
Appoint Secretariat. Establish office and infra-structure for Commission. Team development. Decide work programme, approach and work schedule. Identify sources of evidence, plan activities.

Stage 2. February/March 2003
Launch website. Issue and publicise call for evidence. Invite submissions. Receive background briefings. Invite expert input. Undertake familiarization visits around the country. Develop research agenda.

Stage 3. April/May 2003
Receive and analyse written evidence. Hold academic research workshop. Undertake research.

Stage 4 May/June 2003
Analysis and consideration of evidence and research findings. Follow-up oral hearings as required.

Stage 5 July/August
Prepare framework for Report. Draft report.

Stage 6 September/ October 2003
Final drafting and presentation of Report to NJC Dissemination of Report.

VISITS

March various dates: Commissioners' familiarisation visits to Regions.

4th March - Chair to attend annual joint conference of local government employers and trade unions in the East of England Region, Cambridge.

The Local Government Pay Commission having made its report available to the NJC Secretaries has completed the task for which it was set-up. Accordingly, this website will no longer be updated - 08.12.03

The Local Government Pay Commission (LGPC) today published its unanimous report on the way forward for future pay and reward arrangements for local government employees. The report was presented to the National Joint Council for local government services (NJC) Secretaries - 29.10.03
